Food for Thought: August 21-27

This week is an all-music edition of the Food for Thought series. I've been depressed this past week, which means that my usual routines haven't kept me going the way they usually do. In times like these, I have my headphones in pretty much anytime I'm alone. I make sure that music accompanies me from sunup to sundown. It helps me put one foot in front of the other. I've found that the best way to cope with a hard week is to embrace the arc of my emotions, no matter how ugly they may be. The music I listen to often takes on a corresponding arc that reflects my psychological journey from grief to anger to joy to acceptance. Every type of song, from melancholy acoustic tracks to club bangers, has a place in my healing process. With that in mind, I've created two playlists of what's been in my head this week. The first, Healing Part I, is decidedly sad, giving sorrow and numbness the space to breathe and be experienced fully; the second, Healing Part II, is a combination of fuck-you jams, happy beats, and self-love anthems. I've shared both playlists below, as well as links that allow you to access them on Spotify. Take what you need.
